Hello. I’m John Dizon.

I bridge the gap between creative vision and technical execution.

Most creative leaders lean toward one side: the art or the engine. I’ve spent the last decade purposefully sitting in the middle. With a degree in Computer Information Systems and a career as a Senior Creative Media Strategist, I specialize in building the visual systems and workflows that allow big ideas to actually work.

The Systems Behind the Story

I’ve always believed that creativity needs a strong foundation to scale. At Adlai E. Stevenson High School — the #1 ranked public-enrollment high school in Illinois — I led the digital brand identity for a community of 4,000+, managing everything from enterprise-level CMS migrations to the creative direction of 300-page publications. Whether it’s engineering a custom project intake system or designing retail apparel for a popular online entertainment company like Kinda Funny, I focus on making the process as seamless as the final product.

Published & Proven

My approach to photography is rooted in that same technical precision. My work for culinary establishments like Da Local Boy and Taste of Tokyo has been featured in The New York Times and Chicago Magazine. Whether I’m in the photography pit at a live show, documenting a launch, or capturing the nostalgia of a toy photography set for FanExpo Chicago, I’m looking for the narrative thread that connects a brand to its audience.

The Rest of the Story

When I’m not in the studio or optimizing a workflow, I’m usually fueled by:

  • Japanese Culture: Appreciating the balance of minimalist design and high-quality craft.

  • Music: Finding inspiration in the "wall of sound" from bands like MONO or Thee Sinseers.

  • The Creative Community: Mentoring the next generation of creators and staying active in the local design scene.

I’m a systems-thinker with a designer's eye. Let’s build something together.

Digital Identity & Production: adlai e. Stevenson High School

Directing the visual brand for the #1 ranked public-enrollment high school in Illinois required a unified strategy across disparate mediums. On the left, a digital overhaul utilizing the Finalsite CMS to serve a community of 4,000+ stakeholders; on the right, the creative direction and production of the 300+ page Ambassador Yearbook. These projects represent the intersection of my technical workflow management and high-volume print production oversight.

Tools: Finalsite CMS, Adobe Photoshop, Monday.com, Jotform, Sony Alpha Systems, Jostens Yearbook Avenue.

Editorial & Commercial: Market-Tested Storytelling

My commercial work is rooted in the belief that high-fidelity visuals are the backbone of brand trust. I executed the launch and menu photography for Da Local Boy, creating a visual library that was later selected for publication by The New York Times and Chicago Magazine. This project demonstrates my ability to deliver professional-grade assets that meet national editorial standards while serving the immediate marketing needs of a local brand.

Tools: Adobe Lightroom, Sony Alpha Systems, Sony Imaging Edge, Capture One, Print Production.

Technical Precision: From the Pit to the Studio

My approach to visual storytelling is defined by technical grit and atmospheric intent. Whether capturing the unpredictable 'wall of sound' in a live music environment or meticulously architecting a cinematic scene through toy photography, I focus on the narrative potential of light and shadow. This work represents my ability to navigate the extremes of the craft — combining split-second intuition with the disciplined control of studio production.

Tools: Low-light Photography, Macro Lens Systems, Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom, Studio Lighting.

Information Architecture & Institutional Collateral

Beyond large-scale identity shifts, I specialize in transforming complex data into accessible, human-centered design. This collection represents a cross-section of district-wide communications — ranging from freshman onboarding guides to career roadmaps — engineered to streamline navigation and drive community engagement.

Onboarding & Community Engagement
Directed the layout of district-wide materials to streamline the transition for incoming families. These guides translate dense administrative data into scannable, high-engagement layouts that encourage student involvement and institutional integration.

Information Architecture & Strategy
Developed a visual roadmap for the course selection process, transforming a complex curriculum into a series of clear, navigable pathways. This project focuses on hierarchy to help students and families make informed decisions about post-secondary alignment.

Human-Centered Interactive Design
Engineered a tactile engagement tool designed to facilitate meaningful dialogue between students and parents. This initiative balanced approachable typography with interactive design to simplify the complexities of future planning.
